On a warm, dry morning, raise your hood. Due to potential water damage, protect exposed electronics with plastic baggies. Also, loosen your battery’s negative connection. For separate cleaning, detach your engine’s plastic components. Wash those in a shallow basin.
Grab your grease-cutting cleaner from under your sink, and spray it onto your engine. Cover its exterior. Use additional spray on areas with dense grime. Some areas will require scrubbing.
